Movie: Hot Dog

Movie: Hot Dog

HOT DOG is a comedy written and directed by Marc-André Lavoie and produced by Orange Media. It stars Rémy Girard, Paul Doucet, and Éric Salvail in it’s first role ever.  It was shot by DP Alexandre Bussière on Alexa in ProRes 4444 last summer. I’m now grading the final edit for August 9th release.

The movie tells the story of the 3 owners os Saucibec, a sausage factory, who are trying to find out who deliberately put a tooth in one of the sausage package.

TVC: WIXX Ça bouge!

I got a call from L’Éloi. They were looking for a colorist to work on a tv commercials (Agence: Cossette) for WIXX, a public organization pushing pre-teens to move off their chair and go play outside. For the fist 60 second spot I only did roto in After Effects and keying in Smoke because the grading session was pushed and I had plane tickets booked to attend the NAB. No grading on this one but is was my first paid Smoke job, so I was happy to put my skills to the test.

So here is the first TVC of this series. It was shot on RED Epic on a MILO automated rig. Greg Barth, the director, did most of the comp in AE.

The ones I graded and the making of will come up shortly.

TV Series: Un Chef à la Cabane

TV Series: Un Chef à la Cabane

When a world class chef buys a sugar shack you wouldn’t expect him to raise it’s own porks and build his own smoker from a trashcan but this exactly what Martin Picard does in the new tv series: Un Chef à la Cabane. Presented at Télé-Québec, this cooking show also bring you behind the scenes. Picard and his colleagues turn the sugar shack into a maple sirup laboratory.

The show is shot on Sony F3 and FS-700 in s-log which il very nice to save the highlights in the snow and the insides where the ovens that aren’t that well light.  It is edited on Final Cut Pro 7 and I graded every episode but the first in DaVinci Resolve 9.

TV Series: Ouisurf

TV Series: Ouisurf

Early November I got a call from Toxa, a Montreal production company who was looking for a colorist for a suf show. You don’t get this offer too often in Montreal. Lots of snowboard, but surf… not so much.

Ouisurf started as a website oriented at Quebec surfers. They were doing a amazing job at keep up with all the news and competitions. They are also renewed for their surf trip videos. I’m not a surfer and I was following their journeys. So when I was asked to work on the TV series I accepted with joy.

The 13 episode show will be broadcasted by Evasion starting January 10th at 9PM. Follow Jean-Michel and Benjamin as they try to find the best surf spot in Asia.

They show was shot mainly with Canon 5D mk III and GoPro. It was edited in FCP7 and I graded in DaVinci Resolve 9 on my FSI monitor. It was my first complete job with the FSI. I’ll post a link as soon as it’s online.

October is documentary month

October is documentary month

October 2012 was a busy month.  Maybe because Montreal is hosting the RIDM (Rencontres international du documentaire de Montréal or International Documentary festival of Montreal) early november but I was swapped by requests to grade documentaries. I actually only two.  The first one is “Le Prix des mots”. It’s an immersive docu that brings you in the kafkaian world of the Canadian Justice system by following an indie book editor getting sued by an international mining company. Produced by MC2 and directed by Julien Fréchette, the movie will be presented on Nobember 9th.

The second one is a 72 minutes documentary directed by Marie-Claude Dupont who followed the parties in the 2012 presidential election in Burundy.  In “Demokarasi”, she gives an interesting look at the “democratic” process behind the contested elections.  It should be in theatres soon. I’ll let you know.
