The two things I like very much in life are color grading and white river canoe. I like to alternate color grading and canoe sessions as often as possible. So when I was approached by abitibi&co, a new canoe manufacturer, for a grading gig on the beautifully shot images of their web promo, I obliged.

In total, I graded 14 pieces. The main one is a 80 second video in which we discover a group of paddlers through beautiful sceneries. They used that clip to illustrated their moto: Live beyond the bend.

I was happy they decided to publish the videos on VIMEO. The video hosting website is able to keep the very wide aspect ratio. Please watch them full screen! and share!

Music video: Blue Volvo by Loud Lary Ajust

Music video: Blue Volvo by Loud Lary Ajust

This is a nice little music video I worked on a couple weeks ago. Very low light result shot on Alexa. The deal was to stay as low key as possible while keeping come details.

The piece is part of Loud Lary Ajust‘ s latest album. It was shot in a day by DP Jessica Lee Gagné during a not so cold day of June so the team wasn’t freezing its a$$ in the water.

The footage was graded from scratch in DaVinci Resolve at my studio in July. It was a nice and quick gig. As the shots were captured across the day, water reflections and sky textures weren’t quite matching but some power windows here and there helped a lot.

Here are some before and after:

Following the tv series, Ben of Ouisurf designed a bootykini collection with the girls at June Swimwear. To promote the collection they shot this nice promo and asked me to grade it. The shoot was done using a 5d mike in a dry enclosure, some DoPros ans drones that proved to be hard to match.

They really wanted a fresh, girly and moody look heavily inspired by Instagram looks. I used some strong coloured vignettes and washed out blacks to give the shots that beach vibe.

And the final result:

tv series: Patrice Lemieux 24/7

tv series: Patrice Lemieux 24/7

This was a quick but exciting project. Patrice Lemieux 24/7 is a 10-episodes original series for Super Écran, a French-Canadian movie Network. This is their first original series.

Through the 10 episodes, we follow Patrice Lemieux, a well known Canadian hockey player that represents all the pre-made ideas and cliches you’ve know about hockey players. Built as a faux-reality show, each episodes let us follow Lemieux and it’s family’s not so ordinary day-today life.

The show, produced by KOTV, was shot by Pat Morin on Sony F55 in HD SR LT. Everyday, the shot were converted to DNxHD with a LUT I built for the show. As the show had to be graded on Mistika at Slik, I didn’t have the tools to create 3D LUTs in the station so I used LightSpace CMS and graded a plate over their LUT templates. It was then translated to a .3DL for the dailies created in Resolve and to an .itx for quick grades in Mistika.

The final look is a rich but true to reality render of the set. The director wanted to stay on the thin line between reality tv and fiction. So contrasts were pushed a little more than usual and skin tones were brought toward some pinkish hues.

This was my first full gig on Mistika. I had done commercials and graded a tv series but, on this one, I had to do the online too. So, all the credits, overlays and bumpers were added in the same session as the grading. We were also able to do most of the VFX and comps in the Mistika. We often had to hide a logo, remove a mic pole or replace a sign. It all went smoothly.

I can’t put a whole show but here is a teaser:

Music video: Foxtrott “Driven”

Music video: Foxtrott “Driven”

I was approched, back in december, by 1one to grade this music video for Driven, the first single on Montreal electro-pop artist Foxtrott.

This rhythmic dance video is the result of for different shoots: two in studio including one shot on green screen and exterior shoots. The result is a very poppy edit that couldn’t suit the song better. It was directed and edited by Kevin Calero. It was graded on DaVinci Resolve from the RED footage.

Music video: Fred Pellerin – Plus tard qu’on pense

Music video: Fred Pellerin – Plus tard qu’on pense
